"The Big Picture" was the first story I sent to L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the future Contest. Sep '97 was a scant year after I founded the Blackwood Writers Group, without which it might never have seen light of day, and I came away with award. The certificate says "Honourable Mention" but the accompanying letters, 1. a critique from Dave Wolverton, and 2. a congrats from Edith Shields both say "Congratulations on being a Semi-Finalist..."

A framed copy hangs on my study wall along with a real Semi-Finalist certificate from my last submission Dec '18 A Triplicity of Choices and an accompanying email critique from Dave Wolverton/aka David Farland. I guess in twenty+ years some things are bound to change but others remain the same.
